Reflections on Jonah: God’s Mercy

Jonah Under the Vine, Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd .... should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more then sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand 280-290 CE, marble, late Roman, Asia Minor, Cleveland Museum of Art, thoughtsofgod, thoughts of God, mythoughts, David Reese

I recently went though the book of Jonah to see what God might have to say. I have started by simply drawing the story down to an outline of text. God, יְהוָ֔ה – Yhvh, begins the story by speaking to His servant, Jonah, telling him to goto Nineveh, the capital of Assyria. Jonah flees in […]

Matthew 6:1-24 Intrinsic Reward v Extrinsic Reward – Nestling the Lord’s Pray

Intrinsic Reward v Extrinsic Reward - Nestling the Lord's Pray - Matthew 6:1-24, mythoughts, David Reese, Thoughts of God, thoughtsofgod

Lord, Let me breathe your Word. May every day start with my trusting You for my needs. May your provisions for my life’s needs lead me to explore the needs of my spirit, needs for which You have also prepared a provision.

The Watcher’s Duty

The Watcher, “Now as for you, son of man, I have appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a message from My mouth and give them warning from Me, mythoughts, thoughtsofgod

God’s Word is delivered to Ezekiel so that in turn Ezekiel can instruct the son’s of Israel. The instruction relates to haṣ·ṣō·p̄eh, the watcher, and the role of a watcher.   The watcher is to be taken from the people. The role of the watcher is to warn the people when the sword is seen […]

Paul Appeals to the Corinthian Church: II Corinthians 6

in, endurance, afflictions, hardships, distresses, beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, sleeplessness, hunger, purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, Holy Spirit, love, truth, power of God, weapons of righteousness, deceivers and yet true, unknown yet well-known, dying yet behold, we live, punished yet not put to death, sorrowful yet always rejoicing, poor yet making many rich, having nothing yet possessing all things, by, glory and dishonor, evil report and good report, mythoughts, thoughtsuofgod, thoughts of God

We have the promise that we are God’s temple, companions, people, and children. The church is called to complete separation/distinction by cleansing the things which defile the flesh and spirit (see 6:14-16a).

For to Me, to Live Is Christ and to Die Is Gain

Earlier tonight, I was in a group discussing the last half of the first chapter Paul's Epistle to the Philippians. The discussion settled on verses 1:21-26 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. 23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better; 24 yet to remain on in the flesh is more necessary for your sake. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy in the faith, 26 so that your proud confidence in me may abound in Christ Jesus through my coming to you again. mythoguhts, thoughtsofgod, thoughts of God

For me there is no question. “To die is gain” and “to live is Christ”. I am confident that the minute I die, will be followed by movement into the presence of God. If that is not gain, I don’t know what is.
