As religions other than Christianity are teaching that Jesus never claimed to be God, reasons why the Church believes Jesus is God, and claimed as much, is good to have.

For this reason I have put this group of posts together. I hope that in reading this you will see the truth, Jesus did claim; to be God, to be the Messiah, to be the Son of God, and to be “I Am.”

In this series I have tried to stay to two specific types of statements;

  1. Claims Jesus made about Himself
  2. What others said about Jesus, in His presence, which He did not correct.

In the New Testament there are other verses where Jesus is proclaimed to be God, but again, This series is for those who are questioning if Jesus claimed to be God,

  1. Jesus was with Moses and Elijah
  2. It was Jesus who became radiant
  3. It is Jesus about whom the Father says, “This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!”
Daniel 7:9 “I kept looking Until thrones were set up, And the Ancient of Days took His seat; His vesture was like white snow And the hair of His head like pure wool. His throne was ablaze with flames, Its wheels were a burning fire.
Mark 9:3-5 3 and His garments became radiant and exceedingly white, as no launderer on earth can whiten them. 4 Elijah appeared to them along with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus. 5 Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tabernacles, one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6 For he did not know what to answer; for they became terrified. 7 Then a cloud formed, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is My beloved Son, listen to Him!” 8 All at once they looked around and saw no one with them anymore, except Jesus alone.
  1. Jesus is transfigured in the presence of Elijah and Moses
Exodus 34:29 It came about when Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the testimony were in Moses’ hand as he was coming down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him.
Matthew 17:3-4 Suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared before them, talking with Jesus. 4 Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here. If You wish, I will put up three shelters: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
  1. Jesus is enveloped in a cloud
Ezekiel 10:4 Then the glory of the LORD went up from the cherub to the threshold of the temple, and the temple was filled with the cloud and the court was filled with the brightness of the glory of the LORD.
Luke 9:33-34 As Moses and Elijah were leaving, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let us put up threeshelters: one for You, one for Moses, and onefor Elijah.” (He did not know what he was saying.) 34 While Peter was speaking, a cloud appeared and enveloped them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
  1. Jesus walking on the water
  2. Jesus’ control over nature
Exodus 9:29 Moses said to him, “As soon as I go out of the city, I will spread out my hands to the LORD; the thunder will cease and there will be hail no longer, that you may know that the earth is the LORD’S.
Mark 6:49-51 but when they saw Him walking on the sea, they cried out, thinking He was a ghost— 50 for they all saw Him and were terrified. But Jesus spoke up at once: “Take courage! It is I. Do not” be afraid. 51 Then He climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. And the disciples were utterly astounded,
  1. Jesus is bread of life
  2. Jesus is the never thirst
Isaiah 55:1 “Ho! Every one who thirsts, come to the waters; And you who have no money come, buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk Without money and without cost.
John 6:35 Jesus answered, “I am the bread of life.Whoever comes to Me will never hunger, and whoever believes in Me will never thirst.

  1. Jesus is Light of the World
  2. Jesus is Life
Revelation 22:4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. 5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.
John 8:12 Once again, Jesus spoke to the people and said, “I am the light of the world.Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
  1. Jesus is the light of the world
  2. Jesus heals the man’s eye. He makes it so the light can be seen.
Isaiah 60:19 “No longer will you have the sun for light by day, Nor for brightness will the moon give you light; But you will have the LORD for an everlasting light, And your God for your glory.
John 9:4-6 5 “While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.” 6 When He had said this, He spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and applied the clay to his eyes, 7 and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went away and washed, and came back seeing.
  1. God sent Jesus
  2. Jesus is the light of the world
Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. Isaiah 9:2 The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, The light will shine on them
John 9:4-55“While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.” 6 When He had said this, He spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and applied the clay to his eyes, 7 and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went away and washed, and came back seeing.
  1. He Is the Gate
  2. He Is the Good Shepherd
  3. He Lays Down His Life
Ezekiel 34:30 “Then they will know that I, the LORD their God, am with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are My people,” declares the Lord GOD. 31 “As for you, My sheep, the sheep of My pasture, you are men, and I am your God,” declares the Lord GOD. Psalms 100:3 Know that the LORD Himself is God;  It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
John 10:6-10 Jesus spoke to them using this illustration, but they did not understand what He was telling them. 7 So He said to them again, “Truly, truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who came before Me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate. If anyone enters through Me, he will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness. 11I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.
  1. Jesus Is the Life
  2. Jesus is the resurrection and the life
  3. We will never die if we believe in Him
Job 19:25 “As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last He will take His stand on the earth. 26 “Even after my skin is destroyed, Yet from my flesh I shall see God;  27 Whom I myself shall behold, And whom my eyes will see and not another. My heart faints within me!
John 11:24-25 Martha replied, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He whobelieves in Me will live, even though he dies. 26 And everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”
  1. Jesus Is the Way
  2. Jesus Is Life
  3. Jesus Is Truth
  4. Seeing Jesus is seeing the Father
Psalms 25:4 Make me know Your ways, O LORD; Teach me Your paths. 5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; For You I wait all the day.  6 Remember, O LORD, Your compassion and Your loving-kindness, For they have been from of old.
John 14:6 V-PI-1S 5 “Lord,” said Thomas, “we do not know where You are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. 7 If you had known Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on you do know Him and have seen Him.”
  1. Jesus Is Lord
  2. Jesus is the teacher we need.
Micah 4:2 Many nations will come and say, “Come and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD And to the house of the God of Jacob, That He may teach us about His ways  And that we may walk in His paths.”  For from Zion will go forth the law, Even the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
John 13:13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and rightly so,
  1. Jesus is the Vine
Isaiah 11:1 Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit. 2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.
John 15:1-2  I am the true vine, and My Father is the keeper of the vineyard. 2 He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, and every branch that does bear fruit, He prunes to make it even more fruitful.
  1. Jesus Is the Vine
  2. Jesus Provides What We Need
Genesis 22:13 Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son. 14 Abraham called the name of that place The LORD Will Provide, as it is said to this day, “In the mount of the LORD it will be provided.”
John 15:4-6 Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. 5 I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers. Such branches are gathered up, thrown into the fire, and burned.
  1. Jesus Gave Us the Word of God
  2. Jesus Is Not of the World
Psalms 18:30 As for God, His way is blameless; The word of the LORD is tried; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. You, and I am saying these things while I am in the world, so that they may have My joy fulfilled within them.
John 17:13-14 But now I am coming to You, and I am saying these things while I am in the world, so that they may have My joy fulfilled within them. 14 I have given them Your word and the world has hated them; for they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
  1. Jesus kingdom is rom above this world
  2. When Jesus returns to earth, His kingdom will subdue the earth and Jesus will rule from Zion
To Nebuchadnezzar Deuteronomy 10:14 “Behold, to the LORD your God belong heaven and the highest heavens, the earth and all that is in it. About Jesus Psalms 110:1 The LORD says to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.” 2The LORD will stretch forth Your strong scepter from Zion, saying,“Rule in the midst of Your enemies.”
John 18:36-37 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world; if it were, My servants would fight to prevent My arrest by the Jews. But now, My kingdom is not of this realm.” 37 “Then You are a king?” Pilate said. “You say that I am a king, Jesus answered.“For this reason I was born and have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to My voice.”

John 16:31-33 “Do you finally believe?” Jesus replied. 32 “Look, an hour is coming and has already come when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and you will leave Me all alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with Me. 33 I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!”
  1. Jesus Is Lord
  2. Jesus Spoke to Paul after His resurrection and ascension
Ezekiel 1:28 As the appearance of the rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the appearance of the surrounding radiance. Such was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell on my face and heard a voice speaking. 1 Then He said to me, “Son of man, stand on your feet that I may speak with you!”
Acts 9:4-5 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute Me?” 5 “Who are You, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” He replied. 6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what

  2. Jesus spoke to Paul after His resurrection and ascension
Acts 13:30 “But God raised Him from the dead; 31 and for many days He appeared to those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, the very ones who are now His witnesses to the people. 32 “And we preach to you the good news of the promise made to the fathers, 33 that God has fulfilled this promise to our children in that He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm, ‘YOU ARE MY SON; TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU.’ 34 As for the fact that He raised Him up from the dead, no longer to return to decay, He has spoken in this way: ‘I WILL GIVE YOU THE HOLY and SURE blessings OF DAVID.’ 35 “Therefore He also says in another Psalm, ‘YOU WILL NOT ALLOW YOUR HOLY ONE TO UNDERGO DECAY.’
Acts 26:14-16 “And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew dialect, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ 15 “And I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. 16 ‘But get up and stand on your feet; for this purpose I have appeared to you, to appoint you a minister and a witness not only to the things which you have seen, but also to the things in which I will appear to you;
  1. Jesus Searches Minds
  2. Jesus is the Alpha and Omega
  3. Jesus will judge the world
Jeremiah 17:10 “I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds. Isaiah 9:6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.
Revelation 2:22-23 Behold, I will cast her onto a bed of sickness, and those who commit adultery with her will suffer great tribulation unless they repent of her deeds. 23Then I will strike her children dead, and all thechurches will know that I am the One who searches minds and hearts, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

In Did Jesus Claim to be God, I said that I would post some of the verses I collected in putting that post together. This post will have the last group of verses I have collected. These relate to Jesus’s actions and the statements of those around Jesus identifying Him with God.
